Westmoore’s Marie Cole is one busy lady and husband Jacob Cole serves with the Oklahoma City Police Department. To say their household is always on the move is an understatement.
Their two children, Addison and JJ, are both involved in several activities in and out of school. Addison, now a sophomore, is a member of the varsity wrestling team and the fastpitch softball team at WHS.
“She’s been with Westmore wrestling since seventh grade and the Westmoore fastpitch softball team. She’s been playing softball since she was five years old, and wrestling started when she was in the third grade,” Marie said. “Outside of school, she plays softball for Evolution 16u travel as a pitcher and a utility player.”
JJ is in the seventh grade and is a two-sport athlete like his sister.
“JJ plays football for Brink Junior High and he also wrestles for Westmoore. JJ‘s been playing football since he’s been in the first grade and wrestling in the 1st grade and then just got back into wrestling in seventh grade,” Marie said. “We juggle all different hours through the week. But we would never change it because we love it. I will miss all of this, and I will cherish every bit of my volunteer work and watching my kids and their friends.”
As a volunteer, Marie has spent countless hours helping at wrestling tournaments.
“I’m the woman at large for the girls wrestling. I’m there for the girls in the tournaments if they need anything. I also do my volunteer work in the concession and help during wrestling tournaments,” Marie said. “Just knowing that my time volunteering for concession or tournaments is a great way to meet parents and to get to know the Westmoore wrestling program does a lot for the kids and it’s just a great way of volunteering my time.”
For Marie, there are many reasons why she loves helping the team and the students.
“The thing I enjoy most about being a volunteer is I’m already there watching my kids do what they love and so I’m there to help with whatever needs to be done. I’m there cheering all the wrestlers. The high school, then the high school ladies and the junior high boys and girls. They are just fun to watch,” said Marie.
Marie feels it’s important for parents to get involved.
“Why I think it is important for parents to be involved in their kid’s activities, because the Westmore wrestling program put in so much work and provide so much for our wrestlers. We are just one big family with the wrestling program and being involved with your kid’s activities is just showing your support and their goals,” said Marie.
A graduate of Deer Creek High School, Marie said Moore Public Schools has been a great place for her kids to grow up.
“My kids have established great friendship with kids from elementary to junior high to high school.”
