A Dancing Spirit with Westmoore’s Lily Rowland – Presented by Eskridge Honda

VYPE: How long have you been in yearbook?
Lily Rowland: I was in yearbook during seventh and eighth grade, which led me to wanting to do it in high school. I was in a fundamentals of journalism class my freshman year, which was a prerequisite for yearbook. This is my second year on the yearbook staff.

VYPE: What brings you back this year?
LR: What brings me back every year is the feeling of reaching our goal and making an excellent book representing our school. I enjoy getting to be involved and having a leadership role. It is so lovely to have a dedicated staff around me and meet some of my best friends. It is such an enjoyable environment.

VYPE: What have you contributed to the yearbook this year?
LR: This year, I have done the softball spread, Pom spread, reference section and index. I was also co-editor-in-Chief of JagWire magazine for the fall edition we released.

VYPE: How have you impacted or led other students?
LR: This year, I have been able to lead other students through my roles as co-editor-in-Chief of JagWire and member of the Prowler Editors Board. These roles allow me to be more involved in planning our book and help set goals for the staff.

VYPE: How has your pom experience affected how you perform in yearbook?
LR: Being in Pom has taught me to have a great work ethic and to know I can always rely on my team. This translates to the yearbook because meeting deadlines is hard, but I am confident that the people around me will put in as much effort as I do, and we will get it done together.

VYPE: How much time would you say you put into yearbook?
LR: I can’t measure how much time I put into the yearbook! It is the time I have in class, plus always having something I can work on outside of class, such as writing captions or stories, or trying to reach people for interviews.

VYPE: What got you into Pom?
LR: I have been dancing since age four and have always loved the people I have met. Until starting Pom, I had only been dancing at my studio. As an upcoming junior, I decided to try out for Pom because I wanted to become more involved in a competitive dance environment and work on improving in multiple styles of dance. I also loved the possibility of meeting other girls who had the same love for dance as I did. It turned out to be the best decision ever!

VYPE: What made you try out again?
LR: I decided to try out for Pom again because I had such a great experience my first year! I had improved so much in my dancing and truly joined the team.
