We each have someone in our lives that has an impact on us and helps shape us into the person that we are and will become. For some, it could be a coach or professional athlete that they look up to, but for Faryn Glass, the person that has influenced her the most is someone she has known for all of her life.
“My older sister is the biggest role model in my life,” she said. “She showed me right and wrong, and she also taught me how to stand up for myself. I would not be the person I am today without her always being there for me.”
Faryn is a senior at Westmoore High School. She plays center back on the Jaguars’ soccer team, a sport that she has played since she was seven years old.
Robert Williams, the Westmoore girls soccer coach, says that Faryn is an outstanding member of the team, and the success will be dependent on her play.
“Faryn returned to the team last year as a junior and was an impact player, anchoring our midfield and protecting our inexperienced center backs. She played as a defensive midfielder most of the season. She will probably drop back and solidify our returning freshman center back and we will be very strong defensively.”
While play on the field is important, the preparation beforehand is key for an athlete to be successful. Glass knows what it takes and says that you have to be willing to outwork everyone else.
“In order to be successful in your sport, you have to be willing to work hard,” she said. “That is more than just working at practice. You have to work outside of practice, on your own, even when no one is watching. And most importantly, never give up.”
Out of all the teachers that Faryn has learned from and been in class with, she says that there is one that she considers her favorite.
“Ms. Thompson has taught me that life is hard, but you can always change your path and keep pushing to be great.”
