Westmoore’s Preslee Ray – Presented by Kristy and Ginny Freeman Shelter Insurance

It’s as if softball runs in Preslee Ray’s blood.

“I was born into a softball family since day one,” the Westmoore High School senior said. “My two older sisters, Veronica, and Isabel played softball. They both went to play at the college level. I grew up running in the dirt and picking up softballs at the age of three.”

The youngest of three girls, Ray closely observed her sisters’ careers. Her father coached her until last year.

“I get to learn from my sisters and see their hardships and highs of highs, so when it happens for me, I already have an understanding of how things will go,” Ray said. “They keep me mentally tough and are always pushing me to be better.”

“Preslee is a vocal leader who seeks to constantly improve,” Westmoore head coach Jenny Rollins said. “She uplifts and motivates her teammates, even when she is having an off day. Her passion for her sport is obvious in the way she plays the game. Preslee is a consistent leader who her teammates rally around.”

No player is immune to slumps. Ray has felt them several times, but her perseverance is uncanny.

“It really makes you want to overthink and give up,” Ray said. “When I’m in a slump, I have to trust that my hard work will pay off and understand that God’s plan is good and never fails.”

This year, Ray wants to lead her Westmoore teammates by example.

“I understand being a senior, I can be a good role model to the girls younger than me and lead by example,” Ray said. “My sisters are the hardest workers I know, and I just aspire to have the same work ethic as them. I also want to be a servant leader. I believe to be a great leader, you must help others be their best.”

Ray also interns at MIO Dental and umpires at Buck Thomas Park’s league. After high school, she plans to continue her softball career, win a national championship, and become a dentist.

“I give all the credit to the Lord and am thankful he has provided me this opportunity to share my story to hopefully inspire future athletes to keep on going because your hard work will pay off,” Ray said.
