For Westmoore High School senior Sadie Scarberry, volleyball has provided more than competition. As an outside hitter and defensive specialist for the Lady Jaguars, Scarberry has developed a stronger appreciation for serving teammates, responding to adversity and leading by example. Her time in the program also includes a landmark moment for Westmoore volleyball.
“The accomplishment I am most proud of was during my sophomore year at Westmoore High School when our volleyball team became the first in school history to make it to the state tournament,” Scarberry said.

That experience remains a source of pride for Scarberry and reflects the standard she values within the program. Volleyball has shown her that individual effort is most meaningful when it contributes to the entire team.
“Through volleyball, I have learned the value of humility, teamwork, and leadership,” Scarberry said. “The sport has taught me to think of others before myself, support my teammates, and step up as a leader when needed.”

Scarberry credits former teammate Morgan Cross as a player who helped shape her understanding of leadership. Cross made an impression through her work ethic and the way she treated those around her.
“The teammate who has made the biggest impression on me is Morgan Cross,” Scarberry said. “She is hardworking, kind, and selfless. She was always a great leader and led by example. I looked up to her because of her strong work ethic and the positive impact she had on everyone around her.”

Scarberry also draws inspiration from her mother, whose example has taught her the importance of consistency, care and selflessness.
“The person who inspires me most is my mom,” Scarberry said. “She always takes care of our family no matter what and is always there when we need her. She does so much around the house and works hard to make sure everything is taken care of. Whenever my family or I have problems, she is always there to help us through them and support us. Her kindness, hard work, and selflessness inspire me every day to be a better person.”

In the classroom, Scarberry said teacher Mrs. Revene has made a lasting difference during Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry. Scarberry values the encouragement and positivity Revene brings to students.
When challenges arise on the court, Scarberry relies on advice that applies beyond volleyball

“The best advice I have ever received is to never give up after a mistake,” Scarberry said. “In volleyball and in life, everyone makes mistakes, but what matters is how you respond and keep moving forward.”
