Westmoore’s Delaynie Frazee

A “thump!” into freshmen varsity catcher Delaynie Frazee’s glove earns another strike for the opposing team. Catching curveballs, fastballs and screwballs is her specialty. As a freshman on the team, Frazee’s made her place. She follows her brother onto the baseball/softball field, beginning to play at the age of six.
“For as long as I can remember, sports have always been a part of my life. I was always in the ballpark, watching my older brother play away. It’s only fitting that I started playing softball at the age of six. I practically grew up in the ballpark,” Frazee said.
Starting off on the varsity roster isn’t a small feat, and Frazee’s had her share of it. She wasn’t sure if she would make it as a freshman, but she put in her effort, and it paid off. It took her a lot of work to get a starting spot as catcher and third baseman, and her team is grateful for her effort.
“The transition to high school was tough, but I knew putting in effort and time would get me that spot on varsity. I’m looking forward to regionals during this season and hopefully, making state with my team.” Frazee said.
Westmoore softball is spearheaded by coach Jenny Rollins, and surrounding Frazee are her fellow varsity sophomores and juniors. So far, they’ve had some rollover games and hard-fought losses. Even though off matches, she’s stayed firm in the weight room and practices.
“Our coach gave us a motto this year, ‘Winners Win, No Excuses’ and ‘Don’t Suck’. Getting to that next level each time we play, or practice is my driving force in softball. After high school, I hope to play in college and become a sonographer as well,“ Frazee said.
