Head coach Matt Thornton doesn’t return a ton of experience, but he does have a team that is buying what the coaching staff is selling and that could mean more wins for the Lady Jags this season. “We only return one starter off of last year’s team and we are excited to see where we go from here,” said coach Thornton. “Our players are bought in and looking to make some noise this season.” Jaiden Smith (5-9, Sr.) is back after averaging 6.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest last year. Smith is all energy, playing tough on defense and grabbing those important rebounds. Makayla Jackson (5-8, Sr.) pitched in 2.9 points and 2.0 rebounds last year. Her role on the team is certain to increase thanks to her hard play and hustle. Tiffany McCain (5-3, Sr.) played some minutes at guard last year and is expected to have more of a role this season. Newcomer Ruta Andrews (5-9, Jr.) did not play last year, but her impact is already being felt thanks to her energy and chemistry with her teammates. Cassidy Gomez (5-3, So.) is another guard working to see more minutes this year. Also look for Dee Frost who is one of the exciting underclassmen coach Thornton has on his roster this year.
