Westmoore’s Madison Bowdler – Swimming Spotlight – Presented by Premier Healthcare

Westmoore’s Madison Bowdler

By Trina Walker

Madison Bowdler is a junior at Westmoore High School. She is serious about swim and showcasing a sport many don’t realize is available at her school.

“My favorite part is being able to introduce people to swimming, especially Westmoore swimming. Most don’t know Westmoore has a team so it’s always fun to introduce swimming to them,” she said.

In swim, one must stay strong to the end to succeed. Bowdler says this competitiveness and learning to give everything she has all the way through is what she likes most about her sport. Never give up and the hard work you put in will pay off.

Sisterly rivalry runs deep in her family but it is filled with respect and love for one another. Bowdler likes pushing herself to beat her older sister. When she was seven she had to watch her sister swim. She got bored just sitting and watching so she jumped in and began the sport herself. The two push each other to do their best.

“She continued to push me because I always pushed myself to beat her, which pushed her to beat me, because who wants to lose to their little sister?” Bowdler laughs.

Growing up, she always admired three-time Olympian swimmer Lilly King.

“I’ve always looked up to her ever since I was little. I always wanted to be as good as her. She’s just someone I’ve always wanted to be like,” Bowdler says.

The road has not always been smooth for Bowdler. Not only did she come back after having major knee surgery, she came back stronger. She is thankful to her parents for not letting her quit and for forcing her to go practice.

“Go practice on the days you really don’t want to,” Bowdler says.

The fun of being with her team outweighs any difficulties of tight practice schedules. She eagerly anticipates going to Stillwater every year with the team, saying they “make a day out of it and it’s just lots of fun.”

Her favorite teacher was Mr. Scott from kindergarten.

“He taught me to be myself even if I’m a lot to others,” Bowdler says.

She loves going to concerts and seeing the world. A cruise to Jamaica was a meaningful vacation because it showed her how people live in other countries and how much we take for granted.

After high school, Bowdler wants to become an anesthesiologist or a CRNA.
