Westmoore’s Madeline Glover

By Chris Dietrich

VYPE: How many years have you been in rowing?

Madeline Glover: I have been rowing for five years.

VYPE: How has rowing impacted your daily life?

MG: Rowing has allowed me to get opportunities for my future and college.

VYPE: What has been your favorite moment in rowing?

MG: My favorite part of rowing has to be the people learning to be in a leadership role. I think that has been a big part of what I have enjoyed about rowing and the opportunities it creates for the future.

VYPE: What is your biggest accomplishment throughout your career in rowing?

MG: This past summer, when I was invited to be on the national team and compete in worlds, I placed second on the 8th at the world championship.

VYPE: What is something that helps you keep going when you feel like giving up?

MG: My team is what keeps me going. There is always someone there to bring me back up, even if you feel like you’re at a low. Also, knowing what you have for the future, stay motivated cause our lowest day will push you to be better.

VYPE: How does it feel to be on the National team?

MG: It makes me feel really cool. I feel like I am a part of something that is really big, and I feel really appreciated and known. It also feels good to represent the country.

VYPE: Why did you get into rowing?

MG: It’s the funniest story. My mom signed me up for summer camp during COVID, since we couldn’t do anything else, and we went out in singles, and I was good at it also. It was a lot different than cheerleading, which is what I did before, and I just kind of stuck with rowing.

VYPE: Do you see yourself continuing rowing in the future?
MG: Yes, I am continuing to row at Texas, but there is also the U23 team during college, which would be the national team again for under 23, then after that is the senior team, and that is what I would try and be a part of, then the Olympic team is picked from the senior team, so the goal after is the Olympics.

VYPE: Is there any advice you would give to someone who wants to start rowing?

MG: Do not give up because my first year was rough. The amount of hours and commitment was a lot, but besides that, you really learn a lot about yourself after your first year. Definitely keep going and don’t give up.
