With the Moore War upon us, VYPE Magazine editor Brad Heath caught up with starting tight end for Westmoore, Zane Chavez to find out what he loves about this team and what it means to play in this game.
VYPE: Zane, this seems like a close team, what do you love most about this group of guys?
Chavez: The thing I love most about playing with this group is the brotherhood. This year a lot of new lifelong friendships have been made and I think knowing that we will always have each other’s back will only make us better.
VYPE: What are you seeing out of your teammates this season?
Chavez: This year I’m seeing a lot of leadership between me and my teammates. One thing that stands out to me this year is the amount of young guys that have stepped up into leadership roles and have made the decision to be all in. Ultimately, I think that’s only going to make us stronger.
VYPE: How big is the Moore War for you guys and what does it mean to come out on top?
Chavez: Obviously, Moore War is very serious, hyped game with the history that it brings, but ultimately, I think our whole program is on the same page that although winning Moore War is fun, it’s just the next step to getting us closer to where we want to be come November.
VYPE: When your playing days are done at Westmoore, what does the next chapter look like for Zane Chavez?
Chavez: After high school I plan on playing collegiate sports. I am a two-sport athlete, so I haven’t put my thumb on what exactly I want to do yet. Right now, I’m just going to take it day by day and let everything take care of itself.
