Most of us only run if someone or something is chasing us. Elijah White of Westmoore High School has been running since middle school. Now a junior and a member of the varsity cross country team, White said even though cross country may seem like an individual sport, it’s really about being in position to help your team overall.
“I have run cross country since seventh grade,” said White. “One of the great things about cross country is that your performance helps you as an individual and your team. My teammates and I challenge ourselves, which results in not only personal accomplishment but team achievement. It’s not solely focused on the individual nor the team.”
The team concept is something White thrives on. Being able to help the team to a successful season is his focus every year.
“What I love most about my team is the atmosphere. Everyone is always striving to get better while also having a good time and making jokes. What I love most about my teammates is how we push each other. Each one of us wants to be faster and we do that through helping one another during our workouts, daily runs, and long runs,” said White.
Also a member of the student council, While serves as treasurer and he is a member of National Honor Society. Once he has graduated from high school, White said he plans to attend college to further his education.
“My intentions are to further my academic growth and athletic opportunities in state as well as surrounding states,” said White.
