Terry Simmons Jr., better known as “LT,” is a freshman athlete for the Westmoore Jaguars playing football and running track. He has run track since he was just seven years old and initially joined at WHS to get faster for football season and because of good friend Caden Durham. Simmons competes in the 100, 200, 4×100, and 4×200-meter relays. Westmoore track coach Tim Grantham calls Simmons an underclassman to watch as a “sprinter with excellent speed.”
Simmons says the best thing about playing sports in high school is getting closer to his dream and putting in the work to show people what you can do while competing against the best in the state. Although still early in his high school career, he already has some great accomplishments to look back on.
“One of my favorite memories was my first year making it to the USA Jr Olympics when I was nine years old,” he said. “And just now competing as a freshman has been an experience.”
Simmons looks up to his parents and strives towards high goals with them in mind.
“My role models are my parents because they do so much for me and they give me every opportunity to be great by providing resources to help me be successful,” he said. “I just want to give back to them and make them proud where they wouldn’t have to work anymore.”
When thinking about life after high school, Simmons wants to play college football and is determined to keep athletics at the core of his plans.
“My plans are to give back to the game I love by coaching and working with the youth,” he said.
