Senior center fielder Hallie Hightower has spent most of her life patrolling the outfield, and for the Westmoore High School Lady Jaguars, she has become a steady, energetic presence in the heart of the defense. Hightower plays center field, a spot she embraces for both the responsibility and the vantage point it gives her. “I play center field. I enjoy having priority over the ball, I’m also able to help my other teammates in the outfield. I also like that I have a good view of the entire field.”
That view includes the teammates who help make every practice and game memorable. Hightower said the people around her at Westmoore turn even the toughest days into something she looks forward to. “I love that my teammates and I and Westmoore can make any situation fun!” The lighthearted moments are balanced by a serious commitment to improvement, especially during the summer months as the Jaguars prepare for the high school season. “Summer workouts are going a lot better than expected. I feel like my team, and I are getting stronger every day. I play for the EE Cardinals. I have been playing with them for 11 years.”
Softball is Hightower’s singular sport, and it has been part of her life since early childhood. “I only play softball. I have been playing softball since I was three years old and just love the game. I participate in honor society also.” That love for the game is tied closely to the people who have influenced her, beginning at home. “My mom inspires me because she’s a hard worker and always pushes me to do my best.”
On the field, a former teammate helped shape the player and leader Hightower has become. “My former teammate PresleeRay has had the most impact on me as a player. She always had a good attitude and never let hard days get her down. She showed me what a good teammate and leader looks like.” Looking ahead, Hightower hopes softball will remain part of her story beyond Westmoore. “I’m hoping to play college softball for a few years earning a degree. I also hope to be an aesthetician/injector.”
From center field to the classroom and future career plans, Hightower’s path reflects hard work, positivity and a genuine love for the sport that has defined her since age 3.
