Westmoore teacher spotlight, Marcy Woodson, who is also a graduate from Westmoore High School, went on to attend the University of Oklahoma and later graduate from the University of Central Oklahoma. Marcy has taught many different subjects and grades, ranging from world history, seventh grade reading, to her position now as the sociology and psychology teacher at the high school level.
For Marcy, teaching sociology and psychology to juniors and seniors never gets boring.
“I love that every day is different; a new topic or discussion,” said Marcy.
As well as teaching Marcy is also the head varsity cheer coach. Her team recently competed for the NCA Nationals and they are now back-to-back National Champions in the Advanced COED Division as well as winning Grand Champions for having the highest score in the virtual competition.
Like many teachers, Marcy’s inspiration comes from her students and athletes.
“I want to set the best example for my athletes and want to provide my students with the best experience possible,” said Marcy. “I am constantly looking for ways to present the material in the most interesting way.”
In her free time Marcy enjoys reading, working out at the gym, traveling, and of course spending time with her family. She and her husband, Mike, have been married for 17 years and they have two sons together, Graham and Griffin who will eventually attend the same high school where Marcy teaches. This summer Marcy and her family plan on taking a road trip to Lake Michigan to spend some quality time together.
When asked how she felt about being the focus of the VYPE Teacher Spotlight, you could tell she truly enjoys what she does for a living.
“I love my job and love being a teacher and a coach, so very honored for sure,” Marcy said.
