Westmoore girls basketball player Kyiah Prestridge gave an interview with VYPE.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year? Some of my personal goals for this year is averaging more points and rebounds assists than I did last year. Also, trying to get Gatorade player of the year just a lot of calculations from only basketball, but also off the core as well.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory? One of my favorite sports memories is getting told that I was put on varsity as a freshman. It just felt like a relief of my shoulder knowing that I’ve made it this far and I’m gonna continue to play my game and do well.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why? The teammate that left the biggest impression on me I would have to say Trin Humphrey. She’s a senior this year. She’s done more for me than anything. She’s talking to me, she’s helping me and I practice. She guards me, pushing me to the best of my ability to make me feel comfortable, just to get me ready for these game-like situations and I do the same for her.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team? My favorite part of being on this team is that I’ve known everybody from sixth grade to now. I made a lot of new friends, but I’ve kept the same close knit friends on that team for as well as long as I can remember.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects? I have participated in a couple community services like the food bank repping the middle school game stuff like that. I’m gonna continue doing that if I have time, you know just helping out my community.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why? This year I have decided to just stay between basketball and school. You know, being a sophomore this year I’m preparing myself for junior year , taking SAT preps, taking the ACT stuff like that so I’ve just limited myself to just basketball and school this year.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life? It’s taught me to be flexible and be prepared for everything because you never know what could happen in life so you’re always you know watching your back, paying attention and making sure you’re doing the right stuff and stuff.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you? It’s told me to be flexible and be prepared for everything because you never know what could happen in life so you’re always you know watching your back, paying attention and making sure you’re doing the right stuff and stuff.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why? The people that inspire me the most would have to be my family. They’ve stuck with me through thick and thin between my bad attitude, my bad games, my really good games so I feel like I’m feelin myself and I’m doing really good. They helped me work out the kinks and getting better each and every day and just continue to push.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish. I would like to thank my parents, Athina Prestridge and BJ Raney for the dedication of their time and money into my basketball career. I also would like to thank my siblings. My sister Aliyah because before every game she told me I got this. My brother King for always being my student section and cheering loud and proud for me.
