The sound of a buzzer and cheers from the crowd as the ball swishes into the net at the last moment is a moment senior Brylynn Ormiston knows well. Her love and dedication to basketball have come from childhood beginnings to senior wins. From just seven years old, Ormiston had a heart for the game. She plays on varsity and has been learning many skills since she started playing.
“Ever since I started playing, I knew basketball was the sport for me. The speed, the teamwork, and the hustle are what made me fall in love with basketball. That love has never faded, and that’s my motivation to play to this day,” Ormiston said.
Ormiston has a selfless mindset, not focusing on herself, but bringing out the best in others. Stats are not the focus. Her team is, and her confidence in her players is shown on the court. Motivating her fellow teammates is what she is known for, bringing them back up after a bad game or injury.
“As an athlete, you can get in your head sometimes. All you need is a teammate to give you some motivation. That’s how I try to keep my team together so we can get that win every time,” Ormiston said.
Playing and grabbing wins aren’t just what Ormiston does. She sacrifices for her team, even losing shots and plays for her teammates. Learning this was a mindset change, putting the team’s betterment over her interest. Trusting her team can take a lot of effort, and Ormiston’s claimed many wins. By focusing on collective success, Ormiston embodies the essence of sportsmanship and teamwork, reminding everyone involved that the journey is just as important as the destination.
“I know we have a lot of talent on the team, so I trust them on the court. You’re fighting for a win, not the most points in the scorebook, “Ormiston said.
