Westmoore High School’s Sophie Kuhlman has been playing softball since she was four. “Growing up in a family that loves Softball has influenced me to play. I would watch my cousin play in college, so when my mom signed me up to play, I was very excited,” Kuhlman said.

In her freshman year of high school, Kuhlman got to play at the state softball tournament and made it past the first round. Even when Kuhlman faces stressful times on the field, she resides with her teammates to help her back up.

“When I’m in a stressful game, I just make myself know that my whole team will be behind me,” Kuhlman said.

As a sophomore, Kuhlman has big goals for her future. Kuhlman plans on playing softball in college and pursuing a career in nursing.

“Communication is essential because you don’t know what’s happening in the game without it. If you don’t take the time to come together, then you fall apart,” Kuhlman said.

Obstacles may be faced when playing softball. However, they only make you work hard and make you stronger.

“A challenging game was playing our city rivals in regionals, and I threw a complete game against them, keeping a score of 1-0. I overcame the game by knowing my team had my back no matter what because we all wanted to win,” Kuhlman said. “Words of advice I would give to someone looking up to me would be never to give up and enjoy the game. You want to build the relationships that matter because these girls will be with you nonstop,” Kuhlman said.

During hard times, it can be hard to have faith in winning.

“I maintain a positive team spirit during challenging times by having a positive mindset and always staying in the dugout even if I’m not out in the field.”
